The Nautilus Plateloading
Biceps/Triceps
Retrofit The SS Retrofit Cam for the vintage Nautilus Plateloading Biceps/Triceps machine is supplied with open-style bearings to support the movement arm articulations. The supported force is so well distributed that concerns for their durability in an abusive environment are not warranted. In extreme cases it may be possible to place sealed bearings in the SuperSlow® Cams, thus eliminating the need in the movement arms altogether. Note: this machine represents one of the first two Nautilus products. The earliest production models have cams that are integral to the movement arms in such a way that retrofit of the cams is extremely difficult or impossible. We have dealt successfully with this problem in our production facilities but we do not recommend any one else suffering such obstacles. If you have one of these older machines possessing integral, steel, spider or ribbed cams, phone us and we will be glad to discuss the problems, solutions, and limitations. Otherwise, the later vintage possessing aluminum cams is a simple changeout. This retrofit also includes Keflar conversion hardware. Bearings and oil-impregnated washers are supplied to also enable the handle to freely rotate for slight alignment discrepancies. It is highly recommended that the handle be taken to your machinist to weld on a dog to prevent this free moving handle from falling and striking the knees.
Reengineered Machine This product possesses the same improvement as the retrofit plus others: The Biceps handle is dogged in a manner to prevent it from falling too far and striking the user's knees. The Triceps hand pads are moved medially 3/4 inch on each side for a better fit. Elevation pads are supplied. And extruded plastic tube guards are fastened to the those locations on the frame where plates or feet are likely to rub and mar the finish.
